I received this dance mat at the beginning of July and after using it once a week since then for 45 minutes, one of the buttons is sticking or not registering pressure. It's cheap for a reason; spend the extra cash and get a better dance mat that will last more then 4 months.
or rather eye to foot coordination going on.The toys purpose is to be jumped around on, therefore it is probably made to withstand this. There's a lot of jumping around and the memorizing of techno pop songs, however none of these songs contain math problems or history lessons. For some reason, with the email demands being made by Amazon.com, I feel the need to clarify the star ratings I have given to the Dance Dance Revolution Flash Pad, even though I simply wanted to drop by, leave a star rating, and continue onto something else.Anyway, onto clarification. The toy, from what I have seen, brings about much enjoyment, but nothing revolutionary. Yet, there must be something said for the hand to eye. I don't want to sound cynical, but the business side of me asks, "for how long."Overall, the toy did what it was intended to do, provide hours of ludicrous fun dancing and jumping around. On a further note, it was a gift for a college graduate, so I wasn't too concerned with its educational impact.
If you plan to use it for modding work, however, or building your own pad, it's ideal. If you plan to play any songs over around 3 feet, you'll find that the pad simply will not hold up. The price reflects that, but I prefer to review things without regard to the price. As another reviewer said on the page for Playstation 2 Two DDR Dance Pads Combo, this product is great to experiment with for modding.
The surface of the pad itself is also rather slippery. After testing it again, it was quieter, easier to grip with my feet, and stayed put. I could tell as soon as I got it out of the box that it was very flimsy, but I tried it once, without modding, first. The stickers to hold the pad in place do not work very well. Well, it's a very cheap pad. It is almost impossible to keep it still, etc.
I placed the board and the circle I cut back on the pad, and it now works beautifully. So why only 3 stars. However, I found that it was difficult to stay on center (although I always have this problem) and it tended to press multiple buttons. It moves around too much, and makes a distracting crinkly sound. As the aforementioned reviewer suggested, I got two boards to sandwich the pad with: a 1/2" thick 3'x3' piece of plywood to go on the bottom, and a 1/8" thick piece of the same dimensions for the top. After giving the boards sweet paint jobs, I duct taped the pad to the 1/2" board, then placed the 1/8" board onto the pad, with more duct tape. I removed the top board, and cut out a circle in the middle. etc.
It slips a bit when you start moving fast which can get annoying, but the game's fun, so you'll get over it. Sure, it isn't the most durable or slip proof dance pad, but it's definitely great for beginners and low-impact use. I just got into Stepmania so I'm not exactly "1337" at dance pads, so it was perfect for me. Overall, for the price, (6$) I think it was a great buy.
However, mine seem to break very easily. These things aren't half bad. They work better than the ones with the foam in them. I myself take very good care of the mat, it's my sister and her friends, on the other hand, that tend to break them.I would get it for kids, but for teens and adults, try to find something else.
