It might be ok for windows but it didn't load on my macbook without significant problems.
As the game progresses it slows down. Oh and Aspyr does a bad job converting the game for Macintosh computers. Civ4 is pretty much the same thing as Civ3. Nothing but hype.
A lot of the hints that pop up are obviously meant for Windows computers. I am no computer wiz, but installing it was a hassle, only because i didn't know that i had to copy the game files from the CD to my HD. The game is very addictive so be careful, you still have to go to work and school, the kids still have to be fed. Buy Civ3 and save money.
Once you drop a Nuclear bomb the tiny map in the corner goes haywire, that sucks. The installation instructions said nothing about doing that.
hey, can we call somebody to get help with this thing. my son is beside himself with sadness and anger at this waste of 70 bucks, but we can't seem to make it work. HELP.
The game worked flawlessly. Anyway, when I heard that Civilization IV wouldn't work on it because of the integrated graphics card, I was heart broken. Ok, I got to say that I was afraid of installing this game on my intel macbook I got back in May. It worked better on my mac than on my old gaming laptop. It made me hold back on my purchase for a while. I got the mid range model because I wanted something portable for class. I was shocked. I really hope Apple improves the graphics chips on future macs, but the game worked perfectly.
So if you've got a recent macbook that isn't "compatible," give it a try. I gave in and I now LOVE my mac, way better than any PC I've had. I've loved this game for years since I first played Civilization II on my old PC. Even though I wasn't supposed to, I got Civ IV and installed it at my own peril. If you're a fan of the series you'll be relieved and enjoy hours of fun.
As many of the other reviews have stated your system must meet the minimum requirements. My system did not meet minimum requirements and I could not get it to install. Do not waste your time if your system dose not meet those minimum system requirements.
