As previously stated, Spore is not without flaws. The part that is the most fun is the Creature Creator (released prior to Spore as a stand-alone game of sorts), which allows you endless possibilities to create your very own creature. As previously mentioned, Spore is not without its flaws. It sounds complicated, but it's not. It's unlike any game before it; prior simulation games focus on one particular part of life or the life cycle. Another flaw is the single account per install, limiting the number of games per install.
If DRM bothers you or is something you're unwilling to accept, then Spore is a game you will definitely want to pass up -- there's no getting around that. Yes, it has (excessive) DRM, but so do many other games. Spore has gotten a bad rap that it doesn't deserve. I am not saying that Spore is completely flawless, but it is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. However, for people who for whom those flaws are not a deal breaker, Spore is an amazing game. The only reason Spore has been targeted is because it's such a high profile game. Spore uses SecuROM, which leaves a rootkit on the drive, even after Spore is uninstalled.
Spore is incredible. Spore is simple without being boring, intricate without being complex, and cute without being adorable. Spore lets you control nearly everything about a creature and it's civilization, from humble beginnings to space exploration. I also think that Spore was over-hyped -- people were expecting the moon, and instead they got a video game. Each stage is a different type of gameplay. For some, those flaws may be too big to overlook.
I refuse to buy any programs that use DRM. So now I have two programs that won't work. When the company went out of business, validation was no longer available online. I have had several bad experiences, the worst being the great program DVD XShow that was one of the best slide production program. It was made by the same company that produced DVD XCopy. No more DRM.
This game will not work in the future, DRM requires validation and refuses to install without it. Please be informed that you are only allowed to use this game as long as the producer allows you to validate the game. If they go out of business you will be left with a shiny disk.
I simply want to play the game, have paid for the game and can't play. I had only installed the game one time and thats it.I have unsuccessfully tried to get support from EA for OVER 3 WEEKS. Is DRM really the answer for this. Is this guy on DRUGS. I have been enjoying this game for about a month, my daughter and I both play.
. NOTHING.Last night I looked at some forums and it told me that I should reinstall. I was content with everything and the game play was good, was having a hard time keeping track of everything in the space era, but thats ok.About 3 weeks ago, I got a message that I had installed the game too many times. I've been a EA customer since the late 1980's and I've bought most of the authors games and I have to say that I'm VERY DISSAPOINTED and unhappy with this product. The CEO of EA just stated that 98.2% of all gamers are ok with this.
The only people that are playing this game is the one that had the game cracked. I'm so utterly frustrated with this and that they won't even communicate or have a phone number I can call and speak to a "real human". So I did. They asked me to explain, I did, they asked for some data, I provided it.
Now I don't even get a error message, it just opens a window for a nanosecond and then closes it. All the schmucks that bought the game can't play it.
What happens if I upgrade the drive a few more times.
Spore is going to become a classic.
I won't be able to activate *MY* license anymore since EA Games thinks I'm pirating their software. The game is great, but the DRM is ridiculous.
There is no doubt about that.
I'm already on install #2 of Spore.
A limited number of installs.
However, it has DRM that is absolutely ridiculous.
I'm sorry, but I'm one of those people who can afford a new laptop every year.
I'm sorry Will Wright, I've always been a huge fan of your games, but it's time you left EA Games and found a company that doesn't screw its customers.
