I don't depend on the DS for around town driving, but when we are traveling three hours or more, this travel kit is a must have for the portable game families.
I purchased this for my daugter's DS after one too many long distant car rides when the DS went dead.
It is compatable with her older Game Boy, as well.
It was wonderful for her, and me.
A smart 'after thought' and a wonderful mother's helper.
And, with five kids, this is a real blessing.
It comes with everything she needs to keep playing on the road, and keep the chaos in the car down to a minuim.
The additional UBS cord allows her to plug in anywhere, and the 6ft car charger has ample cord to reach from the 2nd or third row seat.
Can't go wrong with this one.
So stuck that we thought it was locked in place and we had to press on something to get it out. We couldn't figure out it for the longest time, even after having my dad, a mechanical engineer, examine it-- the best suggestion he could offer was just to pull incredibly hard. I got my DS Lite today and picked up this travel pack for it as well. I charged the DS on the way home and everything was fine.
I was so afraid I would break the DS, I didn't want to try it, but finally my boyfriend took a pair of pliers and managed to get it out. My DS is fine, but I will NEVER use that adapter again. It was stuck. until I went to remove the car adapter.
I mean, seriously stuck. DO NOT BUY.
Mine got stuck as well.called the company (Pelican) and they wanted me to ship it back to them.I played with it and finally got it unstuck.had to pull really hard.now I am scared to try it again.useless.
The cable is not too short so you can play while you're charging it in the car or on a laptop. I haven't used the charger much, but I agree with one of the reviewers that there is this extra bonus flashlight that is amazingly bright. But then again, I don't use this one regularly as a main charger (I use the wall plug one for that). I haven't encountered any problems with it and I think it's a pretty good deal considering that it's a multi-pack and allows you to charge it both in a CAR and by USB. It's literally a big flashlight in one little keychain. But aside from that, I have the regular DS (the big one) and it works fine with the big one. I've charged it in a car and it works fine. I give it a four b/c it's a car charger & a usb charger & b/c of the bright flashlight keychain.
Much like the very, very thin cable that Nintendo puts out for the DS LIte, thisvery, very thin cable comes rips open under the lightest possible circumstances. Ever. At my current rate of money spend AC adaptor cables, i've paid almost the equivalant of half a DS within four months.Stay away and look for better quality unless you are prepared to treat that wire like a thin glass sculpture.EDIT: I have since found a dependable replacement, although it is no longer in stock: Nintendo DS Lite USB In Car Adapter. Within a month of regular use, the USB cable that is the one necessary component of this product to work, fell apart. I am looking for third party products to deal with this expensive hassle. It's rugged and has traveled with me around the world in my computer bag with my DS for nearly two years now. I suggest looking for something similar to this instead of Nintendo DS Lite Travel Power Pack.
It is truly shoddy merchandise. I keep a number of cables and wires on me at all times, and this has never happened with them. Unfortunately, it's no better or worse than what Nintendo sells. There are far better alternatives out there.
