Sid Meier's Civilization Chronicles My son, who is in college, loves this game. Great gift idea for a young man up to a dad.
Civilization is _THE_ turn-based strategy game by which all others are judged. It's great fun being able to play Civ I and II again (Civ II being my all time favourite) and the sheer amount of value in this pack with Civ I, Civ II MGE, Civ II ToT, Civ III Complete, Civ IV, and a bunch of bonus material is staggering. There is literally YEARS of gameplay here.
This is a game series that you have to love them. Take control of a civilization, making it the peak amongst them.A game recommended for strategy turn-based games lovers.
It got a little technical (boring), but makes you glad he is involved with Civ because he has some great ideas.
This would be a GREAT place for them to start.
Easily the best piece of software I have ever purchased (in terms of $/hours spent playing).
Although the manuals are in.pdf format, the games run great on windows XP.
Then there's a DVD with a 20 something minute G4 Icons Special on Sid, and then over an hour of Soren talking about the Civ 4 development cycle.
The little book that comes with it was a very quick read.
I never played Civ 1 or Civ 2, but going chronologically through the series you really get to see how it expanded.
It's nearly 100 pages and most memorably consists of an interview with Sid and Soren.
My wife hates it though.
It also gives me an opportunity to play expansion packs I was never able to play before. It has grown tremendously over the years with each new release of the game. I have enjoyed playing Civilization since I discovered Civ II for the Playstation 2 many years ago. Civ Chronicles is fun because it's neat to go back to the very first game and actually be able to see just how much progress the game has made. I love it.
