Black matches the equipment much better than the white one, so it looks good up by the TV and the computer. Quieter than my original white Xbox 360 (got the red ring of death on that unit, bought this one to have something do use until the other came back from the free warranty repair). Games run great and the unit has been rock solid despite the many hours used, either as an extender or a game console. This unit has the HDMI out, so easy to hook up, and graphics are incredible. When the original came back, I was finally able to have a second Xbox to move to my new LCD TV that has 1080P support. With the white one as a media center extender to the plasma hanging on my bedroom wall, and this new Elite on the LCD in the great room, I'm set and very happy. Not a fan of the new avatar based update, but at least it doesn't detract from the games.
Has the games that I enjoy playing. So after having the console for over a year, I enjoyed playing it more with the recent games that came out. Xbox LIVE is a great experience to play with fellow gamers online. Just a great system. Flipping through the tabs are much crisper too.Overall, a great system to have with a lot of cool features. The addition of streaming movies through NetFlix is a plus. I have tried it and the quality is dvd-like.
Not to mention the update on the dashboard. I do prefer the 360 controller as opposed to the PS3, that's just me. A little kiddie for my taste but the layout is straight forward. I haven't bought into the HD movie as of yet since I have a ton of dvd library invested that I just don't see the point of me buying HD-DVD or Blue Ray.
I thought about trying to get another one but I'm not going to take the risk of getting screwed again. Amazon is being GREAT about returning it. Got this POS hooked up and as soon as I finished the initial setup the thing bricked on me. Called Microsoft and they want me to send it in and wait 2 to 4 weeks for them to repair it (and I've heard it takes even longer than that).
I talked myself into thinking that all the ring of death stuff I was hearing about wouldn't happen to me. Well it did and in only about 10 minutes. NO THANKS. So basically they want me to pay full price for a refurb that will likely take a month (or more) to get back.
I'm returning it to Amazon for credit and getting a PS3. Don't think it won't happen to you.
I prefer playing games on either console over my PC.Xbox 360Pros:- more games available- prefer the controller (not a major difference)Cons:- unable to play Blu-ray movies- concerned about red ring of death- produces so much heat that I cannot use it in summer (it is like a space-heater)- the loud fan is annoying- there is a fee for multi-playerPS3Pros:- plays Blu-ray HD movies- produces much less heat- quiet- free multi-playerCons:- not as many games available yet- prefer the Xbox controllerI generally prefer the PS3 by a wide margin. I have owned an Xbox 360 Xbox 360 Elite System Console Includes 120GB Hard Drive for over a year and a PS3 Playstation 3 80GB for several months. This review is a short comparison. Unfortunately, at this time, one almost needs both to play the best games. My suggestion to Microsoft is to include a Blu-ray player, fix the red ring of death, improve the hardware so that it uses less energy & is quiet, and make multi-player free.My suggestion to Sony is to improve the design of the controller and make more games available.
Supposedly, this new design is less likely to suffer from the dreaded RROD (Red Ring of Death), which is basically the common term for hardware failure. Also, the all-black design helps the console blend in better with your typical audio/video set up, in terms of aesthetics. The included HDMI cable also comes in handy if you have an HDTV. I do not play first-person shooters, but I do enjoy Japanese-made games like Eternal Sonata and Soul Calibur IV. Basically, my console was already 8-months old when it came to me, brand new. I recommend getting both. The newest XBox consoles are being made with a new motherboard and chipset, called the Jasper. Being a member of Netflix, I look forward to being able to stream video content directly to my XBox.
My console was manufactured back in February 2008. The XBox, if you subscribe to Netflix, you don't mind paying for a Gold membership at XBox Live, and you have a fast internet connection. The XBox has a bigger library of games at the moment, having had a one year head start on the PS3.The PS3, if you have an HDTV and would like to experience Blu-Ray. The Jaspers are also designed to be more energy efficient, using less power than the previous models. For me, this will be worth it. I'm planning to get a Wii as soon as they become available here at Amazon.
In any case, I recommend the XBox 360 Elite to anyone who needs the hard drive space and HDMI connectivity. As you know by now, the XBox 360 is notorious for having one of the highest failure rates in a modern consumer electronics product. I bought this Elite last month (October, 2008) to have the bigger drive, but more importantly, to be able to use HDMI.The XB360 offers a lot of entertainment. My advice to you is to wait until the supply of the Falcon consoles have dried up before you purchase an XBox.
I recommend this package to you if you purchase a lot of digital content from the Marketplace. My first console died (RROD) and was promptly replaced by the retailer (Amazon). Also, if you like first-person shooters. What if you could only have one, which should you get. In my view, you need that hard drive to fully enjoy what this console has to offer. If you were to purchase an XBox today, the chances are that you will get one with a Falcon chip, not the newer Jasper. Microsoft repaired it free of charge.
I don't really recommend the Arcade though, since it does not come with a hard drive. You have to purchase a Gold membership in order to be able to use this feature. If you are serious about playing video games, you really should have both. Perhaps the disc drive has been improved, and also because cooler operation means that the fans do not have to spin as fast.Unfortunately for me, my console came with the older Falcon chipset. But as you know, most retailers will try to move out old inventory first (FIFO, in accounting terms for those of us who have taken an accounting class in college). Just bear in mind that you need a FAST internet connection for this service to work for you.Why did I make the choice to pay extra for this bundle.
This is my third XB360. However, it did not have HDMI output, so I sold it after Microsoft returned it to me. Jasper production supposedly started two months ago. I also purchase and download various digital content from the Marketplace. But it is selling like hot cakes. The PS3, admittedly, is a more reliable console and not likely to suffer from hardware failure.
I love movies and being able to stream the video to my console will be a blessing. If you want to be reasonably assured of a reliable console, my suggestion is to wait until Spring. So if you do not have the patience to deal with tech support people, you might want to go with this route. Because of the 120GB HD and the included HDMI cable. I had two 20GB versions and recently upgraded to this Elite model. Nintendo must be doing something right.
By the way, Netflix do rent out DVDs in the Blu-Ray format if you like getting your movies through the mail. My second console lasted fourteen months before it died (again, the dreaded RROD). The extra hard drive space is a blessing. The faster an SKU is selling, the higher the likelihood that all of the Falcon units have been sold off.XBox 360 or PS3. The latter feature will become available next week to users who have a Gold membership with XBox Live.
The Pro bundle is fine if all you want to do is save games and download movies (the movies "expire", so you will have no reason to keep it on your hard drive). Now, having said that, most people will probably be happy with the Pro bundle. Also, you might increase your chances of getting a Jasper if you buy the other bundles (Pro and Arcade), as they seem to be selling faster than the Elite. The Jaspers are designed to operate at a lower temperature and therefore, will have less tendency to overheat. The Pro and the Arcade packages do not include an HDMI cable.
And, I have read, that they are also quieter. I cannot comment on the Wii since I have no experience with it.
