They're not anything out of this world, but what they're meant for isn't to wow you with sonic imagery.
If you're looking for an audiophile sound.
They take the sound that the GBA SP makes away from that horrid, single speaker on the systems front, and place it directly in your ears (and your ears alone).
For about $9 when I bought it, its a wonderful investment, since now I don't get dirty looks when I want to hear Castlevania's sweet soundtrack while busting up Dracula and his goons.
The headphones do make it a stereo sound, though its artificially since the left and right buds are making the same sound.
It effectively spares anyone around you from having to put up with the 16-bit style music and sound effects, allowing you to play the games you love around the people you tolerate.As for specifics, the headphones definitely sound better than the speaker on the GBA, though its not by leaps and bounds.
You can detect the underlying static and noise more easily than on the main speaker, but as long as the volume isn't up all the way the static disappears under the games' audio.

my grandson has thoroughly enjoyed having this as part game system. I intend to get his a gaming system of some kind and I will be sure to get her a head set also.
