Editorial Reviews:

For 200 years, Vault 101, a fallout shelter, has served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants. Yet one morning, you awake to find that your father has left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father. Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) that combines the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda.

Mind-Blowing Artificial Intelligence - Radiant AI, America's First Choice in Human Interaction Simulation. Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results Eye-Popping Prettiness - Witness the harsh realities of nuclear fallout rendered like never before in modern super-deluxe HD graphics

User Comments about the Fallout 3

I'm not done and I'm anxious to get back to it. It is DEFINITELY a mature game. I was really shocked when I was told to F-off by an 10 year old. It took some time to get used to playing Fallout as a FPS.

It far exceeds what I expected. While the initial story line IS short it gets you so hooked into the game its hard to leave it. I'm a big fan of Fallout 1 and 2 replaying both of those games leading up to this one. This game is NOT what I thought it would be. Whereas the humor is different it is still there. Lock the den door if you have kids.

I haven't had that happen in a FPS or MMO. The variety of weapons and the difference in effects, flavor, and combat damage are all very complelling. The universe is huge, the graphics great, and the character system even more defining than the previous. More than a few times I found my self jump in my seat when a trap went off or when a foe found me. Overall its been a blast.

The install seemed to go fine until you try to start a new game, then it crashes to Windows. So after installing the game, installing new codec, uninstalling the game, reinstalling the game, it finally worked.for a while. On top of all this after it BSoD I get a SYSTEM FILE corrupt/missing. To start out, this is a "Game(s) for Windows".Why then do I have to spend two hours trying to install it. The patch will show 100% complete, however, it and the game will lock up (Not responding). After repairing windows SECROM magically finds an emulator (which I've never had or used) and won't start the game. I guess in light of the fact that you need a 3rd party codec, SECROM thinks my Samsung DVD drive is an emulator, it corrupts Windows; this is not a "Game(s) for Windows" but a "Game(s) for Dells".The game itself (when it runs) is pretty nice.

At random times in game, it will just crash to Windows or crash and lock up Windows or BSoD. Come to find out you have to download a 3rd party codec in order for the game to work. I tried to patch the game. It's an interesting take on combat, and a nice combination of RBG and FPS.

The games runs very well at high specs now, but still freezes from time to time. I love this game (I think much of the vulgarity is high school kid level and gratuitous, BUT I can't say I wasn't forewarned: I just think my definition of "adult entertainment" may vary from the mainstream). (2) A personal install disaster for me. I finally got relief by going to SECUROM, on my own, and running their alternate.exe file. I've been playing Bethesda games since Elder Scrolls: Arena.

I've loved them all. Now that it IS running, it's gorgeous, fun, addictive, immersive. I played Skynet, Redguard, Battlespire, and the entire Elder scrolls series. One techie actually told me the problem was my NVIDIA card (GTX8800), although the manual says the game was designed and tested on NVIDIA cards.

A reboot fixes the problem.Bottom line. (I have a more than adequate system). I felt mistreated by Bethsoft support, though. Issue: I bought the collector's edition October 30th and couldn't get it running until mid November.

They always apologized for my woes, but I called several times, long distance, and went through the same litany each time as to why the game would freeze two seconds into play. (1) Kudos for a job well done.

I think Bethesda should refund the money of those that were tricked to buy this game with a potentially dangerous rootkit embeded in it or create a patch and quick to remove this horrible program. This game has alot of potential. Like I said, the game is excellent if I could play for more than 45 mins. It messes with your computer, crashes good programs that had nothing wrong with them before, screws the good guys that pay for it when the pirates are still hacking it anyway, and limits the amount of installations. It is astounding that a company uses SecuRom at all. I was unaware of SecuRom being on this game at all before I bought it. at a time without a crash.

I did not play any of the previous Fallout games, but as a fan of the latest editions to the Elder Scrolls line eagerly awaited Fallout 3. Although there is quite a bit of combat, this is genre appropriate and the VATS system alleviates the twitch-reflex element of first person shooters. The pitch is completely accurate; it features open-ended game play, intriguing side quests, and beautiful graphics. I was not disappointed. Fallout 3 is simply a great game, one of the best to come out in a long time. I'm playing on a system that was high end two years ago and have had absolutely no crashes or glitches.
