Oh yeah getting the rosters up to date takes a ton of time and patience. Highly recommend it if you are a Franchise gamer like me. A lot of updating by you is needed. - The gameplay seems like the same old Madden a basic re-hash of last year's version or the version two years ago, or the version three years ago (you get my point). At the end of the off-season right before Training Camp you get a score card evaluating your past season. I always get an F, no matter who I pick. player just to have a FB on their roster since I had to get Lawton to the Eagles since Klecko isn't an FB anymore, he's back at DT. The PS3 version has Hammond & Collinsworth.
First off, I will say I love the new Decade Scoring System. I had no idea they added this till, I was in my draft and all of a sudden while it is cycling through picks a window pops up asking me if I'll accept this trade. You can review the trade, accept it, or reject it. Some of the NEW features added in the past Madden's are still featured as NEW features. Nothing new is added execpt for the Fair-Play feature. During the Draft now the computer will approach you with selection trades.
Nothing new, but given the quicker loading times and the advent of the Decade Scoring System, it's still a lot of fun. Then you are given a grade or a score for each category and a total is added up, and each season you can compare each Decade Score Card and the points you earn. I'll touch a little on the gameplay first. Your score card has points and grades on it ranging from if your team made the playoffs, average attendance throughout the season, net profit, how many pro bowlers you had, how many rivalry games you won, etc, etc.
Strahan is still a Giant, Dan Klecko is the only FB for the Eagles, Mike Hart isn't in the game with the Colts, Favre is nowhere to be found, and Pacman "Adam" Jones isn't even on the Free Agent roster. I'm one of those people that only plays the Franchise Mode (I call it Franchise Mode, I know some refer to it as Owner Mode, but I use Franchise). Very cool. I like this. So I had to give the Colts some b.s. It's really neat, puts even more pressure on you to do well in that particular season. In Franchise Mode I simulate all the games, I LOVE to act as a GM/Owner making all the decisions.
Lawton is currently an Eagle, but Jason Davis isn't in the game. Madden IQ, Rewind, and the new graphic effects are all available on the PS3 version not the PS2 version. The Draft Grades emphasize your Decade Score Card and getting an F every season really hurts your point total. Gosh.- Ok, the Franchise Mode. You can't trade your 1st round pick for the worst team in the league's 1st round pick anymore. - The Rosters are updated but updated very poorly (Indiana Jones 3).
Here's my review of Madden 2009 for the PS2. So with that being said I'm basing my review with the bulk of my emphasis on the Franchise Mode. The trade deadline glitch is gone. - Commentary is the same, Madden & Michaels. Same with the Roster Management screen, loads quicker. On the load after the retired players screen when players are getting new roles and roles taken away it's better.
I do think they added more people/personel on the sidelines during a game. Trades are graded now depending on your record at the deadline. Instead of loading through each player now it loads specific to each team. Like a recent reviewer said they don't even keep past stats available for seasons players had before '08. First off, I'm not really concerned with the gameplay. Pretty much that's it, the rest of the Franchise is the same.
The loading times in the Franchise off-season are a lot quicker. Within a year I might play an actual game maybe a half dozen to a dozen times, that's it. Heck Cedric Benson is still on the Bears roster, that's how bad it is. One thing I do have a problem with is the Draft Grading in Madden. All the new added features you'll hear about, i.e.
For the Eagles I had to cut Dan Klecko, and go get Lawton from the Colts to play FB for the Eagles. Plus if you don't have an internet connection you'll have to make Favre yourself. Makes things harder, no easy way out anymore to stack your dynasty with multiple 1st round picks. - One pet peeve I have is that EA doesn't even update their interface on the game. All it says is N/A.
Player Weapons is not NEW, it was available how long ago. You can't go away anymore to get a cup of coffee while it loads for 5 minutes, it's more like 1 minute then done.
I also noticed they moved the QB vision control to optional for All-Madden and added a move around to avoid sacks. Of course it is not a huge change from last year, but it is the PS2 so I didn't expect a huge update. I guess if you wanted you could compare this game to Madden 08, but a little better in my opinion. I found that it played a bit faster, and the Raiders have an awesome roster this year. I was really was happy with this, and yes the players are a little fatter.
Ok. I could only imagine if Polyphony Digital had the NFL contract how amazing the game would be. The skins roster also doesn't include Colt Brennan, their 3rd QB which they drafted. Hopefully it is more complete for the XBOX and PS3. I'm sure other team rosters have the same problems. I thought I would get something new with this release but I haven't found anything worthwhile yet.
The NFL rules committee removed the 5 yard variety Al so it will be 15. If not, EA should not be allowed to keep their NFL contract if they are gonna be so slack.
The commentary is the same and Al Michaels is still wondering if this facemask penalty will be of the 5 or 15 yard variety. The GUI menu is slightly different but unnecessary.
A good example of a well run game with new models would be the Gran Turismo series. Graphics, camera motion, game play are all the same.
The 3rd QB on EA's roster is the punter and the one they probably won't even sign this year since they drafted the Ray Guy award winner who is also not on the EA roster. And the rosters are only "slightly" updated and I say that because the game must go into production before all the key trades during training camp like Jason Taylor going to the skins.
EA should introduce a "roster correction" feature at start up and let the user fix these issues. They study and get it right every time.
Just a slight splash of water when you run, or a slight spritz of snow.
I love this game.
i wish they would have improved on those features.
Words can't express how great this game is.
No field effects occur.
Madden never the corrected the "morphing" problem yet.
It does have it's madden-quirks though such as, after scoring a touchdown, your man will run and dissappear into the wall.
Also, I realize it is a PS2 but the rain and snow still look weak.
But overall, I love this game.
for example- if i passed the ball, before it got to the WR the game wouldn't be smooth, it would slow waaayyy down and get jerky. well overall this game is solid as always. pretty much the only complaint i have is that on the ps2 version it seems that gameplay seems to get 'glitchy' sometimes. other than that though i love the game and love the madden series.
