User Comments about the Rock Band Drum Silencers

I can tap lightly on each drum and still register a hit. When looking at the drums from the side now, they look a bit strange because the rims hide some internals, but when you're using the drums they look great. I have the newer SL RockBand drums and installed these pads by removing the rims as suggested by another reviewer. These pads work very well to dampen the sound and I noticed no loss in sensitivity. These pads are well worth the money for the first generation drums.

But after we've used them for weeks, they've remain glued on just fine and worked well. Using the drums with silencers is a huge improvement. I read the reviews which mention potential problems and got them anyway. I was concerned they wouldn't stick well when I first installed.

The sound of striking the pad is significantly muffled, which allows you to actually hear the drum sounds coming out of the speakers. The pads look great as well. Because of the raised edge on the drum, and the size of the pads extends all the way to the outside edge, there is a small air bubble that goes all the way around the edge. The drums have a raised edge and the pads are essentially just thick stickers.

I was worried this would mean the pads would come unglued. I recommend you buy these, you'll be happy.

I haven't found this to be a problem particularly, but it may mean that hits at the edges of the drums don't register as well as they could. These little gizmos dramatically improve the sound and "feel" of the Rock Band drum set. Elsewhere, you can find instructions for removing the plastic ring before attaching the pads. I decided not to do this out of fear of breaking something, but your mileage may vary. And in the end, isn't going crazy on the drums what it's all about. The one flaw of these guys is that is that it appears that they don't fit equally well on all drum sets. With them, you can feel free to go crazy on the drums without drowning out everyone else with that hollow "coconut shell" sound the unsilenced drums make. Certainly on mine, the pads don't fit nicely inside the plastic ring around the drum, or even inside the outer bezel on that ring - they're just about the same size as the plastic ring which means that the pads don't sit flat on the drums at the edges. From reading other comments online it seems that they do fit better on some versions of the drum set.

If you're looking for a cheap solution to the loud tappy taps on your Rock Band drum set then these pads are a decent solution. Be prepared to hit the drums a little harder though, these things definitely remove about 20% sensitivity.

Super easy to put them on. The drum silencers are very nice. They make your drums look better and they reduce the banging sound down by half. So easy they didn't come with instructions, but pull the tape off the back and stick them.
