Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir PC

User Comments about the Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Expansion

I got this one to run online with family. However the load screens that come up are just killer. The camera angle quite honesly sucks. While I love RPG games, I must admit that NWN/NWN2 were not my most favorite. Running from battle to battle means jumping in and out of load screens that will put anyone to sleep. I find myself seeing just how fast I can move my mouse to the edge of the screen and back to center to attempt to keep moving in generally the same direction. Many times I have found myself facing the wrong direction in battle due to the speed that the camera angle moves, even in the lowest settings.

I would say so far I have spent 40% of my time playing, and 60% of my time waiting on load screens. It has an interesting story line and I like the communication changes from char to char with in the party. If your one for hack and slash like me, this game probably isn't for you. Over all good game concept, but somebody fell a sleep during a load screen on the developement side of things.

Although the game does have some issues with the camera I am enjoying the game overall.(TIP: Just keep the camera on the strategy setting). It reminds me alot of Icewind Dale in that you create a party. There is alot of freedom to roam in the game which I really like. The overland map is a great feature.I hope they make more expansion packs like this game.

You can easily lose your party simply because too much is happening at once on the screen. I should be clear that it looks like a lot of effort and thought went into making the game and there are times when I was enjoying it. Often you have to turn it off in combat, then operate each character. But for me, I got annoyed too many times. Also, you can pause combat at any time but when you unpause, the real-time combat is 2x faster than it should be.

That would have solved all of the camera issues. Basically, this add-on offers lots of combat and the ability to make your own party from scratch. If you liked Icewind Dale 1 from several year ago you might be tempted to buy this game like I was. If you have lots of patience with 1. Its a shame because there's a good game under there somewhere. But I stopped playing after about 12 hours. This game should have been designed with a fixed 2D overhead isometric perspective.

a combat interface that is sometimes downright broken, then you might enjoy this game. That's fine with me, but your characters still dont respond as one would expect even in that mode. I felt like I was fighting the camera and interface more than the actual enemies in the game. an awkward camera and 2. It doesnt help that your party's AI is at best very imperfect. The load times between areas are frequent and that was probably the last nail in the coffin for me.

The downside is that there's no banter, since you characters don't have much personality. During conversations they all talk, so you can combine their social skills (make your barbarian intimidate, for instance). This is amazing. It magically changes NWN2 from the flawed joke it was at release to a fantastic, old school RPG.

The overland map is awesome. I was going to compare it to Fallout or the old Baldur's Gate map, but I really don't think I've seen anything like it.Basically, Storm of Zehir is to the original NWN2 what Hordes of the Underdark is to the original NWN. The combat's even fun now. It's very reminiscent of Icewind Dale, but with some Darklands and Fallout mixed in.

I love being surprised by games like this. You create a full party in the game (YES). Highly recommended.
